Diseños Delfis Phoenix Dress
A great example of my favorite moment in time for my collection of Mexican dresses, this circa 1970 piece by Diseños Delfis embodies it all - the design illustrates the marriage of traditional time honored techniques with the modern reinterpretation of the symbols and art of ancient times, infused with the vibrant colors of the late 1960s, early 1970s. The dress is 100% cotton, with a geometric Phoenix hand embroidered on the bodice, festooned with satin ribbons cascading down the front, which are decorated with wood beads. It has front on seam pockets.I have an extensive collection pieces from this workshop, they never fail to delight in terms of their creativity and execution. This piece is in excellent vintage condition, it appears to have not been worn. An exceptional example of wearable Mexican Art which has been photographed for inclusion in my book project “Viva La Vida: Mexican Modernist Textiles from 1960-1980”.
